No-exam life insurance

Find out who can benefit from rapid underwriting, the mechanics of how it operates, and what happens when the accelerated path isn't available.

Most insurers now feature rapid underwriting: when you fall within certain thresholds for age and coverage size, they reach a judgment based on your completed application, medication records, driving history and comparable information—no medical exam needed. Approvals for qualified candidates can happen within hours. This site shows which insurers require an exam, might require one, or don't require one for each product.

What it changes

Skipping a medical exam doesn't mean skipping the underwriting process itself. The carrier will examine your statement, and a policy based on untrue statements can be voided within the first twenty-four months. If the carrier's background check turns up problems, they retain the right to order testing; at that moment, you have the option to go forward or withdraw your application.

Who tends to qualify

Usually candidates under approximately age 60 seeking amounts within the carrier's accelerated underwriting cap, with no substantial prior medical problems and no nicotine or tobacco use during the previous year—or longer. Some insurers will also consider current lab results from a recent physician visit in place of a new exam.

Exams, when needed, normally involve a 20 to 30-minute appointment with a paramedical specialist at your house or workplace in the Davis region, at zero expense to you. For folks in good health, the results frequently lead to a better rate classification, so undergoing an exam isn't necessarily detrimental.
